OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A pickup truck ran off the road and struck a tree Friday night in Osceola County, leaving one occupant dead and the other badly hurt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. on U.S. Highway 441, north of Williams Road, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the pickup truck — a 2005 Ford F-250 — was traveling south on U.S. 441 when its driver lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The Ford left the roadway and the driver overcorrected, causing the truck to rotate counterclockwise before it left the roadway again and its right side struck a tree, the report states.

One occupant of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene while the other occupant was airlifted to the hospital as a trauma alert, troopers said. The identities of both individuals are pending confirmation, according to FHP.

A roadblock was established for both directions of travel in the area of the crash. News 6 is working to verify if this is still the case.

FHP is still investigating.
