To celebrate “Freedom Month” in July, Florida is set to kick off a sales tax holiday spanning the entire month, according to the Department of Revenue.

The tax holiday comes courtesy of HB 7073, a tax relief package that was signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last month.

In a release, state officials announced that the latest tax holiday will start on July 1 and run through July 31, though only certain items will be eligible.

Most of these items involve goods typically used in outdoor activities, like swimming, camping and fishing. However, admissions to concerts and similar events are also covered by the holiday.

In addition, the release clarifies how the tax holiday applies to various sales situations. These include:

  • Layaway: If a customer places an item on layaway, that item is eligible for the tax exemption during the sales tax holiday

  • Online Shopping: The sales tax exemptions will also apply to remote sales — including mail order, catalog and internet — just so long as the order is accepted during the holiday timeframe.

  • Gift Cards: Qualifying items bought with a gift card may only receive the sales tax exemption during the holiday period. Using a gift card afterward will not net the exemption.

  • Rentals: The sales tax holiday does not apply to rentals of any eligible items.
