ORLANDO, Fla. – Skeletal remains that were found in a wooded area of Orlando over 30 years ago have now been identified, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
In a release, deputies explained that the remains had been discovered near Heather Road and Dennis Avenue on Jan. 12, 1993.
“The victim was determined to be a White male, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head,” the release reads. “Despite extensive efforts, the identity of the victim remained unknown for nearly three decades.”
But thanks to technological advancements, investigators announced that the OCSO recently identified the victim as Greg Carpenter, 48.
According to deputies, Carpenter had last been seen alive on Dec. 26, 1992, and was reported missing the same day — nearly three weeks before his body was unearthed.
With his identity now in hand, detectives are asking for the public’s help to solve this case.
