BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A comment on social media led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in Brevard County who’s accused of threatening a school, according to Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s General Crimes Unit began investigating with the Office of District and School Security after being notified by the FBI of a TikTok comment which stated, “I’m shootin this school up,” allegedly in reference to a local school, Ivey said Wednesday.

The 15-year-old was identified, arrested to face a charge of electronic or written threats to kill, booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and interviewed, according to the sheriff.

“(He) told Agents he was talking to a friend when the friend allegedly encouraged him to write the comment regarding shooting up the school,” Ivey said in a statement, urging parents to talk with their children about the consequences of school threats. “(…) We don’t care if you don’t have access to any firearms or were just taking a dare from friends as this is not a joke and saying something of that nature is not going to fly in Brevard County.”

News 6 is not naming or showing the boy.
