Hope for Brevard expecting 70-100 cats from North Carolina

FDA (FDA)

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A Melbourne animal shelter is seeking the public’s help ahead of what they expect will be a large intake of rescued cats.

In a post on its Facebook account, HOPE for Brevard announced that it’s expecting 70-100 cats from North Carolina next week, while also pleading for donation help as items will be sent to North Carolina.

Items like dry cat food, wet food, water, and small plastic carriers can be dropped off in donation bins outside the adoption center at 1465 Cypress Ave. or dropped off during adoption hours.

The shelter’s plea comes as North Carolina grapples with widespread devastation after Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane. Days of flooding in western North Carolina turned roads into waterways.

Brevard HOPE’s social media post went on to say that there is little to no service or power in the region where the cats are coming from so it is unclear on the number of cats being rescued or their ages.

The shelter did not share information on when they expect the cats would be available to adopt. They will post updates when the animals arrive.

The shelter is also asking for volunteers to help with cleaning shifts.
