Cooler air arrives mid-month

ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s been a long summer, but Florida’s first cold front of the season could soon be knocking on the door.

There are indications that by the end of next week, around Oct. 11, Central Florida will get a small taste of fall. By early the following the week, around Oct. 15, Central Florida may get a bigger bite.

A major pattern change looks to take shape over the next week to 10 days with a large ridge of high pressure building in the west. Unseasonably warm air looks to push to the west of the Rockies.

Upper Air Pattern

Typically when the ridge and warm air is in the west, a trough with cooler air digs in the east.

Dew point

By the 15th of October, dew point temperatures could dip into the 40s and low 50s in Central Florida. That equates to window-opening weather. For perspective, in the summer, dew point temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 70s. 40s and 50s are the sweet spot for comfort.

Around Oct. 15, actual air temperatures in the morning could dip into the 50s and low 60s in Central Florida. Highs would top out in the low-to-mid 80s with much lower humidity.

This cold front would be right on schedule for Central Florida as the first one of the season typically rolls through during the second or third week of the month.
